The
Little Italy Festa takes place each fall in San Diego, or as I like to call it: "time to see the chalk paintings!" This outdoor event fills the streets of Little Italy with chalk art. The Italian name for it is
Gesso Italiano, and it is breathtaking to watch the artists create their masterpieces. Part of the beauty is knowing that a few days later cars will be driving on those same streets again, and the images are temporary.
There are also vendors selling Italian food, live music performances, and people playing Stickball and Bocci Ball. Go cheer them on! The 2013 Little Italy Festa is scheduled for October 13.

Do they leave the chalk art for cars to drive over afterward, or do they clean the streets first before reopening to traffic? Speaking for myself, I'd be a very distracted driver...
Susan - It is really impressive to see the chalk art in person.
Milo - Very distracted - yes! I've wondered the same thing. If it rains, they probably get washed away. If not, the pictures could last a long time.
