Here is Michelle Kwan's long program to "Lyra Angelica" at the 1998 Nationals. With this skate, she won the national title and went into the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan as the favorite. The joy and freedom of this performance couldn't be replicated with the weight of Olympic pressure on her shoulders, and the gold went to Tara Lipinski.
Many have compared Michelle to Janet Lynn who went into the 1972 Olympics as the favorite as well. Janet didn't win gold, but she won the hearts of the Japanese people when she fell and got up smiling.
